Today, I officially sold the original drawing I did of Moonrise Kingdom’s Sam Shakusky to the young actor that plays him in the film, Jared Gilman, and his mother. This makes me immensely happy/proud. They contacted me out of the blue after seeing it online and, at the time, it made my heart skip two beats. Huge thanks to everyone that liked and re-blogged it over the last month or so. Sometimes I don’t know if anyone is really paying attention or appreciating what I do. It’s nice getting little reminders every now and then that even though I have a tiny amount of followers and activity on my Tumblr blog, someone is looking. I appreciate it. :)
If you haven’t done so already, go see Moonrise Kingdom! It is wonderful.
End of gushy rant.

Prometheus
Apparently there’s an Alien/Prometheus Tribute Art Show down in Florida this weekend. Some of the art is making its way online and it looks pretty amazing. The show is basically a way more successful version of what I’m trying to put together in zine form. If you happen to be in Orlando this weekend, you should probably check out the show.
As for the zine…
It’s been tough. Response has been a bit slow, almost discouragingly so. I hate having to ask other artists directly to contribute since, understandably, the general sentiment among illustrators is no one likes working for free. I’m certainly not known enough for peers to jump on board without question.
BUT the good news is I’m still committed to seeing this printed one day. I have a few super talented artist friends submitting some great pieces. Azad Injejikian (from the first few volumes of Flight, Image Comics’ A Very Sammy Day) is working on a short comic that looks amazing even in its embryonic, sketch form. The deadline is June 15th (about one week from now) but depending on this next week and the number of submissions I get in, this can change again. It will probably be a “when I have enough content” type of situation; even if it means filling the rest with my own artwork (which I don’t mind).
If you still want to submit, you are still more than welcome to do so. The previous instructions still apply. ;) Those who have contributed, thanks so much! I’ll keep posting updates every now and then. Stay tuned!
Oh, dang. This is going to be the best zine ever. Check it out:
